King’s Mill Hospital Divert Products to ‘Hand in Hand with Syria’

Samantha Stanhope, Skanska Waste Contract Manager, who led on this initiative has worked closely with Martin Gilbody, Skanska FM Yard Maintenance Technician, in order to gather some statistics on items that are delivered to King’s Mill Hospital that become a waste product for disposal. It was decided that the best items to target were walking aids as Sherwood Forest NHS Foundation Trust allocate walking aids to patients for one use, but due to Health & Safety regulations, these items then become a waste product.

To date, Sherwood Forest NHS Foundation Trust has handed over 136 tonnes of items to Hand in Hand with Syria which will be distributed amongst Atmeh and Balyoun Hospitals or either of their PHC’s in Hama & Ldlib, wherever they are needed the most.

This initiative has provided the Sherwood Forest NHS Foundation Trust with a disposal cost avoidance of £17,305.00 and would not have been possible without the donation of a container from Central Nottinghamshire Hospitals plc.
