Meet the HCP Consultancy Team – Lee Thompson
Introducing Lee Thompson, HCP Project Manager for HCP Consultancy in his own words.
“Following a 13 year career in the infantry, I found myself starting a new chapter in the Facilities world.
In 2007 I left the army and was lucky enough to be appointed as the site manager working for Doncaster council on one of their primary schools. After 12 months in this role, I was asked by the local authority if I would consider a bigger project. Following a successful interview I was offered the position of Site Maintenance and Development Manager, on what was then largest secondary school in Doncaster. I stayed at this school for the next five years. During this time I cut my teeth on all things TFM (Total Facilities Management).
In 2013, I started to take an interest in PFI TFM. I moved to Bridlington on the east coast and took my first steps in PFI as the Site Supervisor for the Bridlington PFI Schools Contract. By 2015, I could see the potential career benefits that PFI could offer. Being someone who is always keen to progress, I researched what was available. There was little in my area so, ever the adventurer, I travelled further afield.
During the early part of 2016, I was offered a position in London working for Babcock International on their Lewisham contract, delivering PFI TFM. My time in London gave me the opportunity to navigate my first TUPE Transfer from Babcock to Kier. I was promoted from Senior Premises Manager to PFI Contract manager taking full P&L responsibility for the Lewisham schools Contract.
In Late 2018, the strain of living far from my children had taken its toll and following a long hard decision I again moved back the Yorkshire area. I secured a position with the NHS as the PFI Performance and Contract Manager of the Royal Victoria Infirmary. This role placed me firmly on the client side of Service delivery. It also gave me a completely different perspective of the full service and delivery of PFI contracts.
Since 2019, I have worked for HCP as a Project Manager within the Consultancy team.
The purpose of my position is to ensure the effective lifecycle procurement and delivery of all projects within my contracted area, whilst protecting the board from any potential risk, financial or otherwise.
I have attempted during both my military and civilian careers to progress, be it through promotion or the endless thirst to learn new things.
I work hard to provide for my family so they can have the things I never did. Yet it is extremely important to me that I never lose sight of where I have been and what I have achieved. If I had to choose my most significant achievement, it would have to be my children.”
