About The Project

It is the UK’s largest healthcare project and the UK’s largest healthcare trust.

  • Capital Hospitals’ Project Agreement required it to finance, design, develop and construct the hospitals and then maintain and deliver certain non-clinical services.
  • Capital Hospitals raised the finance (via Bonds and Loans) to fund the construction of the hospitals.
  • The freehold ownership of the land remains with the Trust. Licences are granted to Capital Hospitals to allow access.
  • The PFI contract runs for 42 years from April 2006 (i.e. ends April 2048)
  • “Global Completion” of construction was 29 March 2016.
  • Capital Hospitals Ltd maintains the hospital to an agreed standard and it is to hand-back at the end of the term (Concession Period).
