About The Project

This project provided Exeter with six new schools, including secondary and primary schools and a technical college. Five of the six were built within the grounds of existing schools. The scheme involved the redevelopment and new build of Wynstream Primary (formerly called Bradley Rowe Primary School), and five of Exeter’s secondary schools: Isca (formerly Priory), St James, St Lukes, St Peters and West Exe.

Strategic Asset Management – How it Works

On Wednesday 18th September I was invited to join HCP Consultancy SAM Team (Alan Gravatt , Mark O'Shea and John Matthews) on a visit to the Exeter Schools Project to have a lifecycle meeting with General Manager Kevin Smith and Operations Manager Kelly Knight and look around a site. It was a great opportunity to get to know a remote team and see their work in action. We arrived at Sodexo’s Offices in sunny Exeter for a handover of project lifecycle to new recruit John. After the meeting we headed back to the HCP Office where I spoke to Kevin and Kelly on their positive experience of having SAM on their project, including what the future holds for the partnership. Project Management’s Michael Thomas has also been working at the sites so it is a true Consultancy Services and Operations collaboration. We had dinner with the Exeter team on the beautiful canal then on Thursday met Kevin and Kelly for a debrief and a Walk the Floor visit to West Exe School with Kelly and Steve, the Sodexo engineer on site. Thank you to Kelly and Kevin for the experience, it is valuable to see how you work with the Consultancy teams.
